I want to wish a Happy Canada Day to all Canadians, both at home and abroad. Canada truly is the greatest country on earth, and there's nowhere else I'd rather call home.
MP Julie Dzerowicz Rises in the House of Commons to Get an Update on Legacy Refugee Cases
MP Julie Dzerowicz stood in the House of Commons to ask the Minister of Immigration & Citizenship, Ahmed Hussein, about the backlog of 32,000 legacy refugee cases in Canada's asylum system.
In 2012, the previous government made short-sighted changes to the asylum system that left many refugee claimants in limbo for years. The Minister happily updated the House that the backlog has now been cleared.

MP Julie Dzerowicz rose in the House of Commons to ask our Minister of Health, Ginette Petipas Taylor, for an update on the Thalidomide Survivors Support Program, which compensates victims for the off-label use of Thalidomide in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Thalidomide lead to miscarriages, birth defects and premature death.
The Minister updated the House of Commons on the action taken to launch a new, more compassionate support program.

MP Julie Dzerowiczs speaks about addressing climate change while growing economy
Today, I rose during question period in the House of Commons to address the near-universal scientific agreement on climate change, and question Conservative politicians inaction on the country's climate needs. Instead, they are wasting tax payer money by challenging climate action in courts. It is possible to address climate change, grow the economy and create jobs all at once.

Today, I rose in the House of Commons to mark the 75th anniversary of Canada-Mexico bilateral relations.

A Remembrance Day Message from MP Julie Dzerowicz
100 years after the end of World War I, we see how the sacrifices of our Canadian soldiers led to the freedoms we enjoy today. To our Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans, and their families – thank you for your service and sacrifice. Lest we forget.
MP Julie Dzerowicz speaks about honouring veterans
As veterans returned home from the Great War in 1918, the Government of Canada identified the need to recognize their valour and patriotic service to our country. No military burial ground existed at the time.
Prospect Cemetery in Davenport was chosen as the location for a field of honour, and Canada's first veterans' section. Today, it is the final resting place of over 5,300 Canadian and Allied Forces veterans - making it the largest World War I veterans' section in Canada.
As this year marks the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1, I encourage everyone in Davenport to visit Prospect Cemetery, which holds an annual sunrise ceremony every Remembrance Day. Let us pay special tribute to those who have so bravely served our country.
MP Julie Dzerowicz speaks about Human Rights in Latin America
Recently, I rose in the House of Commons to draw attention to the deterioration of democracy and human rights in Honduras, Venezuela, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. Thousands of migrants are fleeing from the rampant criminal activity and instability in these countries to other parts of Latin America and the United States.
I'm proud our federal government and Minister Chrystia Freeland have condemned Honduras, Nicaragua, and Venezuela for failing to protect the human rights of their citizens. I urge us all to continue to be vigilant regarding what is happening in Latin America. Canada must continue to condemn regimes that fail to uphold the basic principles of democracy.
MP Julie Dzerowicz speaks about Animal Rights
After receiving hundreds of letters from Davenport residents about improving our animal cruelty laws, I was pleased to speak in the House about Bill C-84. This bill is part of the Minister of Justice's firm commitment to examine and strengthen animal cruelty laws by ensuring all forms of animal fighting are prohibited & by providing a clear definition for bestiality.
MP Julie Dzerowicz asks about Increasing Female Representation in the Canadian Forces
Our government is proud to be taking action to grow and strengthen our armed forces. We know diversity is a key factor in mission success and that women play a pivotal role in defending Canada's safety and security.

This October is Canada's inaugural Latin American Heritage Month! I was proud to speak in the House of Commons and encourage my colleagues - and indeed all Canadians - to celebrate the culture, traditions, and contributions of those with Latin American backgrounds that we're blessed to have in Canada!
M.P. Julie Dzerowicz speaks about Bill C-77
Repairing the relationship and building a new nation-to-nation relationship with the indigenous people of this country is very important to Davenport residents. I am very glad to be focusing on the implications for indigenous peoples and highlight two key things that this bill would do that would specifically benefit the indigenous peoples of Canada.
Bill C-77 includes indigenous sentencing provisions that would require that military tribunals consider the circumstances of indigenous offenders at sentencing, as is the case in the civilian justice system. Through Bill C-77, we would ensure that indigenous people are given the same rights and respect in the military as in civilian courts. Amending the National Defence Act speaks directly to our government's efforts to repair and renew our relationship with indigenous peoples.
M.P. Dzerowicz speaks about Cyber Security
Data privacy and the threat of hacking are a priority and a worry for Davenport residents. Our government takes our responsibility to protect the private information of citizens and the integrity of our critical infrastructure systems very seriously. We committed $155 million for a new Canadian Centre for Cyber Security, establishing a unified government source of unique expertise and support.
On October 3rd, I rose in the House to ask Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for an update on the implementation of the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security. Listen to his answer here.

I was honoured to rise in the House on behalf of Davenport residents to speak about how Budget 2018 will benefit them, and all Canadians.
Our federal government is helping create the jobs of today and tomorrow by investing in entrepreneurship, research, and skills and training programs. We're also ensuring women have an equal opportunity to succeed by supporting women-owned businesses, helping women enter and succeed in the trades, introducing pay equity legislation, and creating a new EI Parental Sharing Benefit. Finally, I'm proud that our government is taking steps to fight climate change, improve the quality of life of Indigenous peoples, address racism and discrimination, and support local journalism.
